SLJ's universe
Values
I love the idea of designing a table that can be passed down from generation to generation.
This thought perfectly reflects our first core value: sustainability. Every creation is born with the ambition to stand the test of time, to be passed on, to carry memory within it. At Studio Lejeune, we see design as a tangible legacy—a bridge between generations.
Our second value is collaboration. It nourishes every part of our creative process: within our team, where every voice enriches the collective vision; with our artisan partners, whose craftsmanship shapes the soul of our objects; and of course, with our clients, because it is through their perspective, needs, and stories that our creations truly come to life.
Finally, openness is our compass. Openness to world cultures—endless sources of inspiration; openness to all forms of art—often the starting point of a project; but above all, openness to people—to their sensitivity, their imagination, and their humanity.
Aesthetic and Emotional Universe
I am passionate about beauty and driven by a desire to bring more beauty to the world, to places, and to things.
The world of Studio Lejeune is shaped by subtle contrasts, pure forms, and quiet emotions. Our inspirations emerge from the intersection of continents and aesthetics: from Japanese minimalism, which cultivates the essential, to African and Indian art, rich in symbols and textures.
When it comes to objects, we draw inspiration from aeronautical and naval engineering—for their meticulous precision and functional purity. This technical perspective merges with a more sensitive pursuit: the search for beauty. Aware of its subjectivity, we nonetheless aim to give it grounding. When everything is in its right place, it finds its natural beauty—and, in a sense, becomes objectively beautiful.
Craftsmanship
I spontaneously sketch every moment or thing that inspires me.
Gesture is at the origin of everything. At Studio Lejeune, we have made a conscious choice to place craftsmanship at the heart of our approach. It begins with a deep love for materials: each one is chosen with intention, worked in a way that reveals its essence—never to constrain it.
Our artisans are our invaluable allies. Their expertise, their personal history, and their passion for passing on knowledge enrich every project. We choose them with care and respect, convinced that it is through their hands that our ideas come to life.
Finally, drawing remains our primary language. Whether scribbled in a notebook or refined in every detail, it allows for a spontaneity and freedom of expression that no software could ever replicate.
Principles
As a child, I used to rearrange the furniture in my parents’ house every weekend.
This childhood memory illustrates a founding principle: adaptability. In a world in constant motion, creation must follow, listen, and adjust.
Our approach is therefore rooted in a continuous ability to respond to the changing world: to the desires of our clients, the constraints of materials, the blending of inspirations, new techniques, and human interaction. This flexibility is the very condition for creating something honest, meaningful, and contemporary.
